Your Commitment

Your Commitment

Changing behaviour is not always easy.   Over our life-time we have developed our “go-to” behaviours, which we can describe as “normal” reactions to stressful, challenging, uncomfortable situations.  They become our automatic or habitual patterns.  We don’t think, we just do.   Changing or stopping these patterns of behaviour is not always easy.   We have to stop and consciously choose a different behaviour pattern.  This requires mental energy, fitness, a desire and a commitment to change.

To help you do this, create your why….why you are doing this program…..what will you gain from it and why this is important to you.  Here are some questions to help you.

What do you want to achieve by completing this program and building your mental fitness and resilience?

What will it give you that you don’t have now or is missing for you now?

What is important to you about this?   How will that benefit you in your work, relationships, life?

What will be the impact to you if you stay exactly as you are?

What small things/measures will indicate to you that you are moving along the right path?  This can include things like negative or uncomfortable emotions – anger, fear, anxiety, frustration, irritation and the length of time that you are in these emotions; how quickly you shift to a positive focus on moving through the situation; how quickly you recover from a stressful situation; relationships improving etc.

How will you encourage and support yourself?

Who can support you with feedback and/or encouragement?

How can you reward yourself after small wins.

It is the small wins that add up.   Celebrate these small wins – even if that is to say – well done – look how I just handled that.
